Four policemen were injured while trying to help a man arrested in the Bavarian town Georgensgmünd, south of Nuremberg.
The suspect, described as a member of the movement of extremist Empire citizens, opened fire on the officers, before they finally arrested.
Officials said he deprived of the license held 31 guns.
Local authorities called the police after the man again refused to cooperate with them. When a group of special forces moved on Wednesday morning, opened fire at the door, officials said.
The police confirmed that announced the death Thursday of an officer early Wednesday afternoon. Another police officer was treated for serious gunshot wounds. Two others sustained minor injuries.
The offender was slightly wounded in the exchange.
